2013 Will Be Ellie Goulding’s Year

Posted by Mike Moynahan on 12/18 at 06:54 PM

Ellie Goulding arguably had one of the biggest breakout years music saw in 2012.  Her single “Lights” finally began climbing the Billboard Hot 100 in August 2012 after spending more than enough time hovering around the bottom of the chart since it’s United States release in May of 2011.  It seems as though it’s been everywhere ever since.

Asher Roth and The White Panda Bring The Party at Alumni Hall Last Friday

Posted by Brittany Barth on 12/10 at 12:38 PM

I hope you accepted my invitation to come out to the Asher Roth and The White Panda concert at Alumni Hall on Friday night. If you didn’t, then you made a mistake. Both Asher Roth and The White Panda established themselves as the new authorities of party music.

I was ecstatic over the fact I had been able to score a press/photo pass for the show courtesy of SPA. My VIP status enabled me to stand in front of the barricade, where I was up close and personal with the stage and the performers.

‘Tis The Season! Some Songs to Put You in the Holiday Spirit

Posted by Mike Moynahan on 12/06 at 07:21 PM

It’s that time of the year again, State College. Allen street looks spectacular adorned in lights and a full evergreen stands just outside the Allen Street gate. I see bright blue snowflakes on street lamps of Beaver Avenue as I walk to class each day and I could not be happier. With final papers, projects and exams looming over us, let’s take some time together to relax and enjoy some tunes before these next few weeks and think fondly about the family and friends who await us once we return home. Here are some Christmas/winter/holiday songs I hold very dear. I hope you might like them as well:

Album Review: Delilah’s Debut Album “From The Roots Up”

Posted by Brittany Barth on 11/26 at 05:20 PM

Grade: A

About a week ago, while I was listening to music via YouTube, I began perusing through the “Recommended” section to the left of the page. I feel as though this section is often overlooked (at least it was by me) but it’s a musical goldmine. So often it has led me to fantastic artists who I would never have known about otherwise.  And, once again, the goldmine didn’t let me down.

While browsing haphazardly through a sea of unfamiliar artists, I settled on one by the name of Delilah. Her single “Shades Of Grey” was being featured and after listening to it, I knew that her music was something I wanted to investigate further. After exploring the UK-based singer-songwriter in depth, I was pleasantly surprised.

More Music to Discover Over the Holiday: Flight Facilities

Posted by Brittany Barth on 11/21 at 03:22 PM

Looking for a cool jam over the break?

Check out Flight Facilities’ single, “Crave You”. I discovered the band through Pandora after I started radio based on Lana Del Rey. There isn’t much in the way of biography on the band and from what Spotify suggests, they have only released three singles, most of which have been remixed by various DJs.

Springsteen and his E Street Band Rocked The BJC

Posted by Mike Moynahan on 11/12 at 06:05 PM

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band rolled into University Park’s Bryce Jordan Center on November 1 and they made sure to rock while they were there.  They set started off with a couple of new tracks off of Springsteen’s latest release Wrecking Ball.  While new songs like “We Take Care of Our Own” and “Death to My Hometown” may not have been known by all in attendance, they were still very fun to listen to and got the crowd on their feet from the beginning of the set.

A Slice of Jamaica: The Toots and the Maytals at The State Theatre, 11/5/12 - A Review

Posted by Brittany Barth on 11/07 at 05:02 PM

Seeing the Toots and the Maytals perform at The State Theatre on Monday night happened by chance.  During my first class last Thursday morning, my professor offered what would now be “two free tickets” to see the Toots and the Maytals perform as he could no longer go. “They play reggae music,” he said. Instead of allowing him to elaborate further (which may have encouraged another one of my peers to snatch the tickets before I could) I piped up. “I’ll go!”

And so the tickets were mine.
