WPSU Penn State not only houses the region’s National Public Radio (NPR) and Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) stations, but also develops national documentary film and education initiatives to raise awareness of important social issues, and works with a multitude of on-campus clients to deliver web, video and interactive solutions that promote Penn State and its mission. Our busy and growing multimedia team seeks a creative talent who enjoys learning new techniques, has a strong understanding of user experience, and loves the web. If you enjoy graphical design, there will be opportunities to use your Photoshop/Illustrator skills, but your focus will primarily be HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Core development platforms include Expression Engine, Drupal, and PHP. You will create templates and prototypes at the beginning of development while working with content experts, designers, and developers to complete the implementation and launch. You’ll enjoy a team-oriented, casual atmosphere conducive to maximizing your potential but must be comfortable discussing and contributing ideas at any stage of the process. This job will be filled as a level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate’s competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires an Associate’s degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. It would be a bonus if you have skills in Adobe Creative Suite and experience with accessibility issues. Competencies critical to success are the demonstrated ability to implement one-off projects quickly while keeping long-term projects on schedule; rapid development/prototyping of front-end XHTML/CSS/JS; JavaScript, with an emphasis on jQuery; exposure or experience with widely used CMS; proficiency solving cross-browser issues and solutions. We seek candidates who are able to demonstrate experience and ability to advance Outreach’s diversity initiative. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.

WPSU Penn State is seeking an experienced Information Technology Generalist to join our team. WPSU is the local PBS/NPR affiliate that produces unique content for the public, as well as clients and departments within Penn State. Knowledge of MacOS, Windows and Linux are required. Experience with Adobe CC, ProTools, networks, firewalls, SAN’s, backup schemes, data integrity, audio/video codecs, virtual machines and scripting are desired. Duties will include but are not limited to, maintaining various IT systems including backup and storage, troubleshooting hardware/software issues, process documentation, monitoring ticketing systems, and providing end user support for WPSU specific processes. This position will need to collaborate with a variety of IT staff in different areas around the University and requires excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Applicants must be able to work independently, managing time and priorities while communicating with appropriate IT staff and supervisors. Requires working off-hours to accommodate system updates and customer schedules as well as monitoring systems to provide off-hours troubleshooting when necessary. WPSU-FM, an NPR affiliate station, offers a unique opportunity to advance the career development of juniors and seniors who aspire to be radio news professionals through a paid internship. The Radio News Intern will contribute to our local radio news programming by writing compelling and engaging news wraps (about 1 minute) and/or long-format (3 to 4 minute) feature stories. The Intern will come up with story ideas, set up and conduct interviews, and write and put together air-ready final products. Successful applicants will have taken at least one newswriting class and be an energetic self-starter who takes initiative. Familiarity with the NPR style of news reporting a plus. Fall semester – 10 hours/week for 14 weeks at $8.50/hour.
